Monthly Spell
December 2022
Yule Knot Magic
Welcome to the end of the year. We made it! Since tradition is to have a decorated tree I decided to do ornaments this month. Here’s what’s in the box.
2 macrame ornament kits
Smoky quartz for stress relief
Orange and lemon candy (pretend it’s an orange in the toe of your stocking)
Snowflake keychain
Home-grown chiltepins for fudge (NOT for the simmer pot!)
Frankincense incense
“Sweater Weather Simmer” simmer pot bag
Simmer pot ingredients:
Cinnamon sticks: warmth strength to spell
Apple: offering to the spirits of your home
Lemon: love and purification
Cranberry: abundance
Pine needles & bark: grounding and rebirth for the new year
Cloves: protection
Star anise: good luck
Oranges: happiness, “sunny” feel
Rosemary: for whatever spirit thinks you need that isn’t included
I recommend using a crock pot or something like it for simmer pots, because I don’t want the inevitable scorching that will happen if I put it on a pan on my stove. Dump them in some water and warm it up and your house should start to smell lovely, and spread all that warmth and cheer throughout!
While the simmer pot does its work, you can start working on the ornaments. I’ll be honest- I thought about making a video showing you how, but frankly I don’t have good enough video equipment. This person does a wonderful job showing how it’s done. The difference is- each time you tie a knot, you’re going to say aloud what you’re tying into the ornament. A happy home, warmth, contentment, family getting along, low stress, etc. You could also just describe the holiday you hope to experience, even if it’s just you in the house. Peace, warmth, coziness, a good dinner, things like that. When you’re done, hang the ornaments somewhere you’ll see them throughout the day to remind you of that feeling you want. Since there are two, maybe even consider giving one of them to someone with whom you want to share warm feelings and wishes!
The cord included in the kit should be enough to make 2 copies of the first ornament demonstrated in this video. Use cinnamon sticks for the dowel!
