IT’S GONNA BE MAY! Yes, it’s my fave month- my BIRTHDAYYYYYYY! HAPPY TAURUS SEASON! By the time you get this IT IS MY BIRTHDAY!!! And April showers bring May flowers, right? Here’s whatcha get in this box! It’s more of a supply run than a spell, but you will be able to make your own dried, pressed spell leaves, petals, and flowers after this.
Plant press
Cyanotype paper
Flower quartz
Flower candy
Flower tea
Spring-scented candle
Incense
Random sublimation goodies
To assemble the flower press, put a washer on the bolt, then the bottom piece of wood. Then add a sheet or 2 of printer paper, the flowers and leaves you want to press, a couple more pieces of printer paper, the top piece of wood, the washer, and the butterfly nut. Don’t tighten it too much or 1- you’ll destroy the plant matter, and 2- crack the wood. Just do it finger tight. In a week, see if you can turn it a little more. After about a month, gently open it and check to see if they’re done. It takes about a week or two here in Arizona, but it will probably take longer in places with humidity. If you like phytoconjure, this is your chance to make your own! Press mint leaves, 4 leaf clover, walnut leaves, rose petals… all are great to use in spells.
For the cyanotype paper: KEEP IT OUT OF THE SUN until you are ready to use it! And don’t do this on a windy day.
Gather things to make silhouettes on the paper. Flowers, coins, dolls, your hand, a crystal, anything that has a cool-looking shadow. Arrange it on your desk or table in the way you want it on your paper, and take a picture of it with your phone. Put your cyanotype paper face-down on a piece of cardboard and carry it, your phone, and the objects, outside and find a flat place to lay it out in the sun.
Once you’re outside, open the picture on your phone. Then quickly lay the cyanotype paper blue side up and arrange the items on the paper- use the pic on your phone if you need to. Let it sit for 2-20 minutes (depending on how sunny it is where you are).
When the blue fades and gets really pale, quickly move the items off it and cover it with the cardboard. Take the paper inside and hold it under running water for 2 minutes; the colors will reverse. Let it dry and you can frame it or hang it up or… whatever, I don’t know. Put it on your fridge.
The candle is scented with violet and woodbine. It smells kind of like when you find a patch of flowers in the woods in the middle of summer on a hot humid day.
If you think of a fun way we can work together to use the cyanotype paper in a group spell, I’d love to hear it! Tell us in Marco, if you are in there, or in the facebook group.
