It’s hot. Let’s do water things. Remember when I told you to save a candle and make some moon water last month? Here’s the next step: making a watercolor painting using moon water!

In the box:

  • Mini watercolors

  • Watercolor paper

  • Altar tool: handmade candle scribe

  • “It’s just a phase” moon phase binder clip

  • Chocolate mint candies

  • Grapefruit kombucha

  • A bunch of cute tiny erasers bc cute tiny things

  • Rough prehnite (spiritual growth, dreams, and creativity)

I cut all these candle scribes from deadfall creosote on our property, on the waning day after the full moon. I sanded them, then treated them with a hardener. They should last you a while, but they *are* made from natural wood, and the plasticizer can only do so much, so please treat them with respect. Creosote is a tricky plant. It’s very hard to transplant, and it’s also hard to grow from seed, but once it’s started, it’s REALLY hard to get rid of! If there are roots left behind, you’ll probably see it shooting up some branches and leaves the next time it rains. I figured that determination and willpower would come in handy when we’re doing spellwork.

So! You got your moon water ready? Now bust out one of those candles! Choose what you want to work on for this painting. Want to do some self love? Lean on the creosote to help you stick with it. I would use waxing moon water for that, to grow your love and esteem for yourself.

Want to do more work with spirit, or divination? The prehnite can help with those.

Once you choose an intention to work on, get out the moon water, your paint and watercolor paper, and the prehnite. You can carve your intention into a candle and set it up where you plan on working. Actually, if you got the Elements box for water last year, you should have a great little dish to put your moon water in for the paintbrush!

First put the prehnite out where you plan on working, to help with inspiration. I tend to take a pencil and lightly sketch out my idea before I start painting. If you do that too, go ahead and do it now. Then get some painter’s/masking tape and tape down the top and bottom of your watercolor paper so it doesn’t slide around, light your candle, and get to painting!
Sometimes people like to stretch the paper before using watercolors. This keeps the paper from curling or bubbling. We’re taping it down, instead- if you want to attempt to stretch it after, you can wet the back of the paper, then put it in the flower press from last May.
