February 2025

Self Care

It’s February, my least fave month. It’s cold and grey, usually, and I’m glad it’s short. This makes it a perfect month to focus on self-care. This particular February is going to be especially stressful, and I know I’ll definitely need some pampering. That means it’s face mask month!

In the box:

A “Woke up worthy” mason jar lid to remind you that you’re worth caring for

Bentonite clay for purification. Assists in oil absorption/greasy face.

Chamomile for balance & calm. Soothes & calms skin.

Honey, a reminder of our connection with divinity. Anti-inflammatory humectant.

Horsetail, protective & cleansing. Promotes skin healing.

Hyssop for peace & purification. Anti-inflammatory, cleanses & smoothes.

Lavender for tranquility. Soothing antibacterial.

Milk powder for connection to divinity (or the fae, with that honey). Exfoliates & smoothes.

Choose a day to pamper yourself. Maybe the kids and partners are out of the house for an hour, maybe you’re sneaking it in before everyone wakes up, or after they went to bed. Either way, carve out about half an hour to an hour for yourself that’s *just* yours.

The night before your Pampering Day, you’re gonna put together your “soup”. Get a smallish jar, maybe a little jelly jar or something, or like the kind capers come in. You don’t want to make a lot or it’ll go bad. Put a spoonful of each herb you want in your mask into the jar so you know how much will fit. You can use them all if you want a real banger of a spell, or you can just be simple and go with chamomile, hyssop, and lavender for a calming, peaceful working, for example. Ask each ingredient to add their specific intention- let them know what job you want them to do for you. You’re working with the “spirit properties” of the plant, and since each one has several, best to let them know what your work is for this time. (Do NOT put milk in yet, though, and don’t put the bentonite clay in at all)

Pour the herbs from the jar into a metal container, then pour boiling water over them- juuuust enough to cover them. You don’t want to flood it out. When it cools off some, pour the whole thing back into the jar and put the lid on, and shake it up. When it cools to about room temp/tepid, add a spoonful of milk powder and shake it up again. At this point, put it in the fridge overnight. That’ll give the “tea” time to steep. If it isn’t going to freeze and you can be sure nothing/nobody will mess with it, you could also leave it out under the moon, if it’s in a phase you want to work with. If it’s waxing, you could use it to increase the properties you want to use. If waning, use it to take away things like tired skin, dryness, whatever.

When you’re ready to use the mask, you can strain out the herbs and put them in the compost pile (or the trash if you don’t have access). Wash and dry your face like normal, then unwrap one of the paper masks and dunk it in the tea you made. Leave it on your face for 5-10 minutes. When you’re done, pat dry and moisturize. I have a nice face oil I got from Little Seed Farm. I add a couple of drops to my damp hands and lightly pat it onto my face after I do the mask.

If you have oily skin, first you can mix equal parts of the bentonite clay and the infused water and make a paste; apply it to your problem spots and let it dry, then wash it off and follow the above steps.

Round it out with a nice piece of chocolate, light some incense, and just zone out for a little bit.

I’d love to know what blend you chose- be sure to stop into the Discord and share yours, and tell us how it went!
