Monthly Spell
October 2021
Ancestors
Good Samhain, my lovelies. I hope this finds you well, cooling off, and enjoying fall things. It’s supposed to be 90 here tomorrow but hey, at least it’s not double digits, and next week we might get a freeze! I mean I hope not but it’s interesting, if nothing else.
Sorry this is a little later than usual. Anahata’s Purpose really threw me for a loop; next year I’ll know better.
This month is centered on an ancestor altar. I chose to do it this month instead of November in case you wanted to do it on Samhain, which is when I plan on doing it. Like many witches, I consider this to be the start of… not really a new year, exactly, but a new start. This is when I look back at what I’ve accomplished (or not), and make plans for the next turn of the Earth.
This month you’ll need:
black candle
ancestral dressing powder (I blended mine on the dark moon, with things like pomegranate, myrrh, mesquite resin, rose petals, jasmine, marigold, and a few other things meant to honor and attract the attention of spirits past)
a dressing oil made with herbs and resins similar and complementary to the dressing powder
Joss paper, sacrificial offering to burn or just leave on the altar (Chinese ghost/spirit money)
I actually don’t do a lot of ancestor work. I’m interested, I find it interesting to consider, but I’ve never done it. So I’ll be joining you this month in this.
I plan on eating something amazing, and making a small offering plate to go put under the Saguaro. I use a leaf for a plate and I don’t go back to check on it. Nature takes it one way or another.
I’ll use the oil and powder to dress the candle, and then I may take a bath by candlelight while I think about how my year went, and what I want to do in the next. I got to “meet” all of you, which has been really fun. And of course I had my life changed at Anahata’s Purpose, which is affecting me still. I have fun plans for my Patrons, providing the gem show comes through with what I need in February. I’ll also spend some time thinking about the people who survived and kicked ass to get me here, thank them for their hard work, and ask them to help me achieve my goals.
If you would like to share your accomplishments, things that weren’t so accomplished, plans, or just feelings in general, I’d love to see them in comments.
