As the northern hemisphere continues its descent into the depths of the dark half of the year, may we be reminded of the importance of rest. Many of the earth's creatures are beginning to move into hibernation and torpor, riding out the darkest days with peaceful winter slumber. Even the trees sleep. Their annual dormancy is announced with blushing leaves as the sap draws back into the trunk and roots, conserving energy for the cold and dark of winter. No one calls the trees or bears lazy for their rest and adherence to the natural cycles, and so too may we allow ourselves the grace of knowing when to rest, and not judging ourselves or others for doing so in this world that seems to move faster every day.

May we follow the guidance of nature and remember to rest and conserve our energy as we require during this dark half, so that we may spring forward into new growth and bloom when the time is right. So mote it be.
